Bitcoin Struggles Near $63K as ETF Inflows Reverse

Bitcoin is trading in a weak, choppy range near $63,000–$63,500 this weekend, unable to hold gains even after briefly touching $64,400–$64,500 following this week's US inflation report. The rally faded quickly, with the price giving back its advance and sliding back below $64,000. Weak trading volume and thin buying interest suggest the market remains stuck in consolidation rather than building toward a breakout.

The stall in price is being reinforced by a shift in ETF demand. Spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded back-to-back daily outflows for the first time since late July, erasing the prior week's inflows as the asset failed to build on positive momentum from the inflation data. Ether and other major altcoins have struggled similarly, with XRP hovering near the $1 level and broader sentiment showing signs of fading risk appetite across bitcoin, stocks, gold, and bonds alike.

Trump to Host Crypto CEOs at White House Ahead of CFTC Meeting

Despite the soft price action, Washington is set for one of its most closely watched crypto weeks of the year. President Trump is expected to personally attend a White House meeting on Wednesday with a group of leading crypto executives, according to multiple reports, joined by both SEC Chair Paul Atkins and CFTC Chairman Mike Selig. The gathering will bring together CEOs from Coinbase, Ripple, Gemini, Robinhood, Polymarket, and Kalshi — all members of a newly formed Innovation Advisory Committee at the CFTC — ahead of that committee's first formal meeting the following day.

The timing carries added weight because it comes as the CLARITY Act, the industry's long-sought market-structure bill, remains stalled in the Senate following its failure to reach a floor vote before the August recess. Senate Majority Leader John Thune has scheduled a procedural vote for mid-September, but recent estimates put the bill's odds of passage this year at roughly 20%, weighed down by unresolved ethics provisions tied to Trump's own crypto business interests and continued partisan disagreement.

What It Means for the Market

The contrast between a subdued price chart and a high-profile Washington gathering underscores where the crypto industry currently stands: institutional interest and political access have both grown, but neither has translated into sustained price momentum. Traders will be watching whether Wednesday's meeting produces any concrete signals on regulation, and whether renewed political attention can offset the recent pullback in ETF demand — or whether the market continues to trade sideways regardless of what happens in the room.
