Pros

  • Zero maker and taker fees for all customers
  • No volume thresholds, token holdings or tier conditions to qualify
  • Applies across spot, margin, perpetuals, securities pairs and OTC
  • The change is dated and announced publicly rather than buried in a table

Cons

  • A zero-fee model depends on the venue earning elsewhere; the schedule does not detail what those revenue sources cost you
  • Non-trading charges such as withdrawals are not covered by this criterion set
  • This ranking does not assess custody, reserves or licensing — see the note below

Zero, and genuinely unconditional

Bitfinex reduced maker and taker fees to zero for all customers with immediate effect on 17 December 2025, covering crypto spot and margin pairs, perpetual derivatives, spot securities pairs and OTC trading. The announcement states there are no volume requirements, no token holdings and no tier conditions.

That last part is what separates it from the discount offers common in this category. A rate that requires holding an exchange's token is a position in that token; a rate of zero with nothing attached is simply zero.

Worth checking yourself

This is a recent change, and our own prior information had Bitfinex charging conventional maker and taker fees. We verified the current position against the fee page and the dated announcement, both linked below. If you are reading this long after July 2026, check the source before relying on it.

What this score does not cover

Trading cost is not the same as safety. This ranking scores published fees only; it does not assess custody, reserve attestations or licensing, and a zero fee says nothing about any of those.
