Price targets by year
| Year | Low | Average | High |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026 | $0.9800 | $1.00 | $1.02 |

Short term
Dai should trade within a fraction of a cent of $1, with only brief deviations during sharp market stress.
Mid term
Peg stability depends on collateral quality and governance; expect $1 with occasional volatility around major DeFi or regulatory events.
Long term
Dai's role hinges on the Sky ecosystem's health and stablecoin regulation, but the target remains roughly $1.
How does Dai hold its value?
Dai is a soft-pegged dollar minted against over-collateralized crypto and real-world-asset vaults inside the Sky (formerly MakerDAO) protocol. Peg stability comes from mechanisms like the Peg Stability Module, the Dai Savings Rate and liquidation auctions that arbitrage price back toward $1. As a payment and DeFi settlement asset, its utility is stability and composability, not capital gains.
What are the risks?
Trading near $0.9997, Dai does what it is designed to do, but stablecoins are not risk-free. Collateral concentration in centralized assets like USDC creates contagion exposure, RWA and governance decisions introduce regulatory and credit risk, and extreme market stress has briefly de-pegged Dai before. The Sky rebrand and USDS migration also add protocol-transition uncertainty. Holders should view Dai as cash-equivalent with tail risk, not a guaranteed dollar.
