Ondo US Dollar Yield

USDY is a tokenized note issued by Ondo Finance, backed by a portfolio of short-term US Treasuries and bank demand deposits. It is structured as a yield-bearing instrument for non-US individuals and institutions, offering exposure to US dollar interest income on-chain. Rather than holding a flat one-dollar peg, USDY accrues value as the underlying assets earn yield, so its token price rises gradually. It is available on multiple blockchains and represents a bridge between traditional fixed income and tokenized real-world assets.

USDY comes in an accruing version whose price increases daily to reflect earned interest, plus a rebasing variant that keeps a one-dollar price and adjusts token quantity. The reserves, mainly US Treasuries and bank deposits, generate yield that flows to holders through this design. It is offered to non-US persons and has a subscription and redemption process with an initial holding period before tokens become transferable. As a regulated real-world asset product, it operates within securities and compliance frameworks rather than as an open stablecoin.

The accruing USDY token's price rises steadily as interest accumulates, so its main driver is the yield on short-term US Treasuries and deposits, which tracks Federal Reserve policy rates. Its market capitalization grows as more investors subscribe seeking dollar yield on-chain, and shrinks on redemptions. Demand reflects appetite for tokenized real-world assets, use as collateral in DeFi and comparisons with other yield-bearing stable products. Falling US rates would slow the accrual and reduce the appeal of holding USDY.

USDY carries issuer and counterparty risk tied to Ondo, its custodians and the banks holding deposits, plus interest-rate risk since yield falls when rates drop. It is restricted to non-US persons and has holding-period and transfer limits. As a regulated note it faces evolving securities regulation, and bank-deposit exposure adds some credit risk. Smart-contract and custody risks apply on-chain. It is a yield instrument, not a speculative growth asset.
